U.S. Futsal National Teams Set to Compete in IFA World Championship in Malaysia

Young American Athletes to Showcase Talent on International Stage in August 2024

The United States Futsal Federation (USFF) has announced that the U16 U.S. Futsal National Select Teams will participate in the prestigious IFA World Championship, scheduled to take place in Selangor, Malaysia, starting on August 18, 2024. This competition represents a significant milestone for American futsal, offering young athletes a platform to demonstrate their skills on the international stage.

The U.S. teams will feature players from five different states, showcasing a diverse array of talent. The boys’ team will be led by head coach William Hanna from Alexandria, Virginia, with assistant coach Jose Pereira from Concord, California. The girls’ team will be under the guidance of head coach Mario Gonzalez and assistant coach Ricardo Da Silva, both from the San Francisco Bay Area. The strong representation from the Bay Area underscores the region’s prominence in the U.S. futsal scene.

“The U.S. Futsal National Select Teams’ journey to Malaysia marks a crucial step in the sport’s growth and highlights the rising talent within American futsal,” said Alex Para, U.S. Futsal Federation President and CEO. “Our goal is to raise awareness and expand futsal’s infrastructure across the country. By competing on an international stage, these young athletes not only serve as ambassadors for the sport but also inspire future players. Their participation in the IFA World Championship emphasizes the need for greater resources and facilities to make futsal more accessible to youth nationwide.”
