The Futsal Malta Association President Mark Borg, unveiled a detailed proposals for a Futsal Arena, together with local leading design firm, IAS – Innovative Architectural Structures, FMA has been working on this proposal for many months. Both organisations will be presenting the project designs with detailed costings and estimates to the authorities in the coming weeks.
The FMA has been actively lobbying for proper infrastructure for the past ten years a such facilities would enable the game of futsal to be developed further and reach higher targets. Futsal Focus spoke with Mark Borg about the proposal:
“Although the national futsal competitions have been going on for the past ten years under the responsibility of the Futsal Malta Association, the futsal level reached by the clubs has substantially improved (consistently reaching the Main Round of the UEFA Futsal Champions League), yet Malta is still waiting to have its first ever dedicated futsal arena.
The proposal designed by Innovative Architectural Structures (iAS), includes a futsal court which meets international standards both in terms of dimensions as well as the incorporation of ancillary facilities. The main objective of the arena is to host the national league as well as host international UEFA/FIFA tournaments. Currently, the association is also working on a number of collaborations in conjunction with the Malta Paralympic Committee and also with the Malta Frame Football Association, and hopefully the venue will also accommodate new projects.
Finally, the FMA hopes that the national league will one day be extended to other age groups and possibly to the women’s game. Without the necessary infrastructure such growth cannot be achieved.”
