5 days to go to the first ever UK Street Futsal Championship taking place in London at the Westway Sports & Fitness Centre
Clubs are coming from across the UK to compete against each other and lift the first ever Street Futsal Championship, the Futsal Focus Street Futsal Championship
One of the competing clubs from London is Bloomsbury Futsal!
What was ProFutsal London is now Bloomsbury Futsal. Nothing has changed but the name.
However, that’s not to say it’s for no reason…
ProFutsal began six years ago and was founded by former Arsenal Academy player and Aberdeen professional, Jon Kurrant.
The current setup encompasses U6s to U16s, an U18s Development side who play in Tier Two of the National Futsal Series, and a First Team which has seen seven of their players including Kurrant, capped by the National side and has only been running the courts for four years. From next season, the U18s Development side will be separated into a Development team and an U18s team.
The partnership is part of a wider ambition to not only propel the sport of Futsal into the household name it’s potential deserves, but for, what will now be Bloomsbury Futsal, to double its weekly participants of two-hundred in eighteen months, to build an equally elite women’s set-up both at Academy and First Team level, and to allow both First Teams within three to five years to be paid for their performances on the court.
Our First Team intend to compete to be Champions of England and gain entry to the Champions League to battle with the best and the top in the country and we achieve will through our Coach education and fostering emerging talent through our academy system.
Our achievements so far include:
- U14 champions of England and the FA Futsal Youth Cup
- U10, U12, U14 2018 and 2019 Regional Champions (Hertfordshire and South East)
- U16 Regional Champions 2019
- Runners up National Futsal League 2018
- Runners up in the National Futsal Series Tier 1 2019 (PPG)
- Runners up in the Summer Show Down Series 2021
The most important of aims for Bloomsbury Futsal, both as a club and for the community, is to give the sport of Futsal the exposure it deserves. Bloomsbury Football Foundation is a registered charity, powered by visions of social cohesion, equality of opportunity and sporting excellence, using the power of football to improve the lives of young people. Bloomsbury ensures every child has the opportunity to play football irrespective of their background or financial circumstance, utilising bursary schemes to offer sustainable programmes that support active lifestyles, promote positive impacts and pursue full potential.
ProFutsal joining Bloomsbury Football means grassroots Futsal is becoming accessible to all in the capital. We want to be the go-to place for provision of Futsal in England and the South – for technical and tactical content but importantly to use the game to break down barriers and use Futsal to develop better people; to deal with failure as well as success.
We want to reach as many children in North London as possible and expose them to the game of Futsal, for the recreational to the more advanced and elite player. We’re keen to work with local boroughs to deliver Futsal and make sure that for every child barriers are removed so they can receive the best experience and provision.
Bloomsbury Futsal is also looking forward to building our partnership with the University of Hertfordshire in delivering their Futsal programme. The new structure will allow for a full pathway from youth to adults whilst allowing an incredible opportunity to study a degree alongside playing in the BUCS Premier as well as opportunities to play for Bloomsbury in the National Futsal Series.
To kick off the start of the accessible provision of Futsal promised by the partnership, Bloomsbury Futsal is hosting FREE drop-in sessions every Wednesday 15:30 – 17:15, for school years 6-11, at Westway Sport & Fitness Centre, W10 6RP.
Bloomsbury Futsal are competing in Group B of the Futsal Focus Street Futsal Championship, and their fixtures on the day are:
- 10:06 am v Cambridge Futsal Club
- 11:44 am v Bedford Futsal Club
- 13:22 pm v Reading Royals Futsal Club
- 15:10 pm v Rosario Futsal Club from Northern Ireland
