Continental efforts to expand women’s futsal align with increased investment and preparation for global competitions.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is intensifying its efforts to develop women’s futsal across the continent. In a recent meeting held in Cairo, Egypt, the Women’s Football Organizing Committee, led by CAF Vice President and Women’s Football Committee Chairperson Kanizat Ibrahim, engaged in comprehensive discussions on the current state and future growth of women’s futsal in Africa.

This initiative aligns with CAF’s broader commitment to women’s football, as evidenced by the recent increase in prize money for the CAF Women’s Champions League from USD 400,000 to USD 600,000.
The committee’s agenda also included the development of coaching frameworks, support programs for member associations, and capacity-building initiatives. However, the emphasis on women’s futsal signifies a strategic move to elevate this emerging discipline within African football.
This focus comes at a pivotal time, with the inaugural FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup scheduled to take place in the Philippines in November 2025. CAF and the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (Concacaf) will each have two representatives in this tournament, highlighting the importance of developing competitive women’s futsal teams in Africa.
Kanizat Ibrahim expressed optimism about the future of women’s football in Africa, stating, “We are seeing positive changes already, and with continued dedication, I am confident the future of women’s football in Africa will be bright.”
CAF’s strategic focus on women’s futsal, coupled with increased investment and development initiatives, underscores its commitment to advancing women’s football across the continent.
