A Milestone for Futsal in Wrexham
After five years of dedicated effort and growth, FC United of Wrexham has officially been acquired by EVA Sporting Group. This acquisition signals an exciting new chapter for futsal in the region, with ambitious goals to reach the UEFA Futsal Champions League in the near future.
The move reflects EVA Sporting Group’s commitment to investing in sports as a means to empower communities and nurture talent. For Wrexham, this marks a significant step toward becoming a major player in the futsal world.
Andrew Ruscoe Steps into a New Role
Andrew Ruscoe, a key figure in the club’s growth, will transition from Chairman to Director of Futsal. Reflecting on the milestone, Ruscoe shared his gratitude and optimism:
“The time is now right to announce this, and I’m so proud to reveal that FC United of Wrexham has officially been acquired by EVA Sporting Group. Thank you, Adam Alfi, for making this happen. Hopefully, we’ll now achieve our dreams and make them a reality. What a journey it has been, and here’s to the next five years under EVA Sporting Group. We aim to recruit more qualified coaches, and establish FC United of Wrexham back into the men’s futsal league, continue the growth of the women’s futsal and get the men’s team into the UEFA Futsal Champions League.”
Adam Alfi: From Global Visionary to Local Advocate
Adam Alfi, a former professional Major League Soccer referee, has been a driving force behind this new chapter for FC United of Wrexham. His journey to becoming involved with the club is as inspiring as his vision for its future.
In November this year, Alfi travelled 4,300 miles from Florida to Wrexham to celebrate with FC United of Wrexham Women’s team after their historic victory in the inaugural North East Wales Football Association (NEWFA) Women’s Futsal League. Moved by their dedication and passion, Alfi treated the team to a celebratory meal at a local restaurant and immersed himself in Wrexham’s vibrant football culture.
Speaking to The Leader news platform, “It’s been an absolute pleasure to meet everyone and immerse myself in the rich culture of Wrexham and Wales,” Alfi said. “The pride and commitment I’ve seen in this community speak volumes about the dedication to grassroots efforts and the heart of football and futsal. Witnessing this team’s journey to victory has been inspiring—this is what the game is all about: connecting people across borders and celebrating each other’s successes.”
During his visit, Alfi took time to explore Wrexham’s football scene, visiting local grounds, the historic Wrexham Parish Church, and Ysgol Clywedog sports hall, where he refereed matches and even assisted an injured player. The personal touch and genuine enthusiasm he displayed resonated deeply with the community, showcasing his commitment to fostering the sport at every level.
EVA Sporting Group’s Broader Vision
The acquisition of FC United of Wrexham is just one part of EVA Sporting Group’s mission to transform sports communities. In addition to futsal, EVA has launched Wrexham City FC, a not-for-profit grassroots football club aimed at providing pathways for players to succeed both on and off the pitch.
EVA is also building global connections through a partnership with Jensen Beach Athletics, a Florida-based organization. This collaboration bridges communities across the Atlantic, promoting cross-cultural exchanges and professional opportunities for athletes.
Adam Alfi is an American entrepreneur with a diverse background in sports and business. He has transitioned from a professional football referee and player to a multifaceted business leader. In addition to his role at EVA Sports Group, Alfi holds leadership positions in other ventures. He serves as the CEO of Effvision Business Solutions Corporation, a company involved in business solutions.
A Message from EVA Sporting Group
EVA Sporting Group founder Adam Alfi expressed his excitement about the future:
“The acquisition of FC United of Wrexham is not just about building a club—it’s about creating a legacy. Our vision extends beyond futsal to include grassroots development and global collaboration. Together, we’re shaping the future of sports in Wrexham and beyond.”
Looking Ahead
Adam Alfi’s journey from professional referee to advocate for Wrexham’s futsal future is a testament to his belief in the power of sport to inspire and unite. His personal involvement with the club, both on and off the court, underscores the potential of this acquisition to spark meaningful change.
With EVA Sporting Group’s resources and commitment, FC United of Wrexham is well-positioned to achieve its ambitious goals. The path to the UEFA Futsal Champions League is just beginning, and the future of futsal in Wrexham has never been brighter.
