UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO 2022 finals postponed

The final tournament scheduled for 25 to 27 March in Gondomar, Portugal has been put back.

After consultation and following the agreement of the host association, we confirm that the UEFA Women’s Futsal EURO finals in Gondomar, Portugal (25–27 March 2022) has been postponed.

Further decisions will be taken in due course.

Former England Futsal International Doug Reed broke this news yesterday, stating:

Women’s Euro scheduled for 25th-27th March will be postponed. Russia are currently banned from UEFA competitions & Ukraine are unable to field a team due to the situation in the country. Other participating teams are Portugal & defending champions Spain. We await further news. pic.twitter.com/Ezl06gy9eC

In our own opinion, how this tournament could return in its current format seems unlikely. Either Russia and Ukraine will be replaced by other countries or the tournament will not take place at all. Should it not happen, it will be a very disappointing development for the women’s game as this tournament is the pinnacle of European women’s futsal and the last competition helped to ignite increased interest in the women’s game. Hopefully, the competition will go ahead.
