The biggest attendance in British Futsal history was England v Sweden at the London Copperbox Arena when over 1,000 spectators watched the match. At University level the record was set by the University of Northumbria versus the University of Newcastle when 900 fans watched Northumbria defeat their opponents and lift the trophy.
Next Wednesday at 8 pm, 29th March, the University of Worcester Futsal take on the University of Gloucester in this year’s Varsity fixture. The game is to be played at the home of the Worcester Wolves Basketball team at the University of Worcester Arena in which can capacitate up to 2,000 spectators. All seating will be out and available and a huge crowd is expected and both teams are hoping the attendance record can be broken and an entertaining match for all is planned as both are determined to lift the trophy.
University Futsal has exploded across the UK with more Universities getting involved each year for both the mens and womens leagues. The Universities compete in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCs) Futsal competitions and from next year it is rumoured that University futsal clubs from Northern Ireland will also be getting involved, meaning the whole of the UK will be represented as this sport continues to grow in popularity and participation.
