Gianni Infantino highlights the sport’s global growth and reaffirms FIFA’s commitment to expanding its presence.
According to the Liga Nacional de Futsal (LNF) in Brazil, FIFA President Gianni Infantino has once again voiced his support for the inclusion of futsal in the Olympic Games. His remarks come in the wake of the International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) recent decision to increase the number of women’s football teams in the Olympic tournament — a move Infantino described as a positive step toward greater visibility and representation in the sport.

Infantino expressed appreciation to the IOC for what he called “fruitful discussions” and stated that FIFA remains committed to working with its partners to bring futsal and beach football into the Olympic programme, potentially as early as the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
“Our organisations are convinced that women’s football deserves much more representation and visibility at the Olympic Games, and this measure is the result of that conviction,” said Infantino. “We will continue working with our partners to incorporate futsal and beach football into the Olympic programme.”
Brazil, a futsal powerhouse, currently holds six world titles in the men’s game. The country also tops the global rankings in women’s futsal and has already secured a place in the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, scheduled to take place in the Philippines this November.
This renewed call from the FIFA President adds momentum to the growing campaign to see futsal recognised on the Olympic stage, reflecting both its competitive strength and expanding international appeal.
