Pérez began his coaching career at Toledart, alongside Jesús Velasco, before stepping into his first head coach role at Talavera in 1996. He rose to prominence with Playas de Castellón, guiding the team through a golden period from 2000 to 2003, culminating in multiple domestic and continental titles. His career also saw successful stints at Movistar Inter, Polaris World Cartagena, Armiñana Valencia, and Azkar Lugo.

Internationally, Pérez’s coaching journey has been equally illustrious. He led Dynamo Moscow to three consecutive Champions League finals from 2012 to 2014 and had notable spells with clubs and national teams in Romania, Azerbaijan, Italy, and China, most recently with Shangai Quanqi Pioneer.

New Beginnings in Barcelona

Pérez and his family arrived in Barcelona on Monday, where they were greeted by Jordi Torras, a familiar face from Pérez’s time at Inter, and his assistant Jordi Illa. Pérez toured the Ciutat Esportiva facilities, posed for photographs, and engaged with club media, expressing his enthusiasm for the new role.

“This is an incomparable professional challenge,” Pérez remarked. “I know trophies will be required, but I’m used to that pressure and I have the perfect squad to do that. I want to get the team playing dynamic, vertical football, to dominate possession and to create chances, always looking to win.”

High Expectations and Praise for Barça

Pérez revealed that discussions with FC Barcelona about this role had been ongoing, and he is thrilled to finally take on the challenge. “The club has unique facilities and an unparalleled infrastructure in the futsal world,” he noted. “It means we professionals can get the very best out of our work, and that makes things so much easier.”

Pérez’s appointment heralds a new era for FC Barcelona’s futsal team. With his extensive experience and tactical acumen, fans and club officials alike are optimistic about the future under his leadership. As the new season approaches, all eyes will be on Pérez to see how he can leverage his expertise to bring further glory to one of the most storied clubs in futsal history.
