Summary of Preliminary Round Success
Germany (Group A)
Germany’s Under-19 futsal team secured their spot in the main round with a commanding 7-2 victory over Malta in their final match of the preliminary round, held in Druskininkai, Lithuania. With this win, Germany finished at the top of Group A with seven points, ahead of Georgia, who had five points.
Germany’s coach, Daniel Gerlach, reflected on the team’s experience:
“We take many learning moments from this preliminary round. Games like these are immensely important for the development of young German futsal talents.”
In their match against Malta, Germany’s first-half lead came courtesy of Ivony Noah Smith from FC Liria Berlin. The second half saw a flurry of action, with Franz Born and Samuel Melissopoulos scoring in quick succession to make it 3-0. Although Malta responded with goals from Isaac Vella and Luca Suda, Germany’s resilience ensured victory, with further goals from Giuseppe Berretta, Raven Rabiega, and an own goal by Neil Gauci sealing the win.
The team’s dominant performance not only secured qualification but also demonstrated their potential ahead of the main round, where they will face Italy, Romania, and Slovakia between 25 and 30 March 2025.
