A Historic Milestone for Women’s Futsal: Brazil Gears Up for the First-Ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup

The sport is eagerly anticipating its participation in the first-ever FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup.

The year 2025 is beginning with high expectations and great opportunities for women in Brazil’s most widely played sport. After the Men’s National Team secured the Futsal World Cup title last year, the sport is now looking forward to the inaugural edition of the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, organized by the world’s governing body for football and futsal. The tournament will take place in the Philippines starting on November 21.

The competition will feature 16 teams, with qualification spots allocated as follows: 3 for South America, 4 for Europe, 3 for Asia, 2 for Africa, 2 for North America, and 1 for Oceania. Brazil, the current leader in FIFA’s futsal world rankings and a strong contender for the title, will also have to compete in the South American qualifiers. To prepare for this, the national team will play two international friendlies against Finland in February. In early March, they will hold a training camp in Brazil before heading to Sorocaba on March 20 to compete in the Women’s Futsal Copa América, where the top three teams will secure spots in the first Women’s Futsal World Cup.

In addition to being the top-ranked team, Brazil boasts standout individual players. In the most recent edition of the prestigious Futsal Planet Awards, pivot Emily Marcondes was named the best female futsal player in the world, while head coach Wilson Saboia won the award for best national team coach. Amandinha, an eight-time winner of the Best Player of the World award, is also one of Brazil’s key stars.

This is a true constellation of talent ready to capture the hearts of Brazilian fans, become national idols, and keep Brazil at the top of the futsal world. Their success is a reflection of the growing structure and support for women’s futsal in Brazil, including the creation of the Women’s Futsal League (LFF), which will launch its fourth season this year with a record number of teams. Additionally, a partnership with the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) will further strengthen the support and resources available to clubs.

The journey will kick off in Sorocaba, a city that has become synonymous with futsal thanks to the successful Magnus Futsal team and its hosting of various international events at the state-of-the-art Multi-Purpose Arena. The goal is to make this the biggest Women’s Futsal Copa América in history—celebrating the sport, drawing public and media attention, and, most importantly, attracting investment from the sports marketing industry to support the Women’s National Team in their historic journey to the World Cup. Increased investment will further develop the sport at the professional level, as well as in youth development and inclusion programs.

After years of struggle, the time has finally come for women’s futsal to take center stage. May this be a brilliant year for our female athletes, and may we all stand together throughout this journey—celebrating the sport and celebrating these incredible players!
